Most Creative Bestiary Entry Contest

To kick start the new Bestiary forum, we are going to have competition! This competition is not about strength, power, or cool abilities, but about creativity. In short, whoever makes the most creative beast in the 3 pet categories will win the winning pet, free of cost!

RULES:

1) All entries must be original, and as such, may not come from the avatar world. They also can not come from any other anime. Any beasts which are written from another anime, books, etc. will be disqualified. It must be entirely your own idea.

2) All used images or other content must be done with respect. You are to say who created it, and link back to them if possible and practical, if you can not, then explain why. For google images, when viewing the image on google, click the button to continue to the site, and list the site the image came from if you don’t know the creator. Any images not done this way will be disqualified unless they are your own creations, and if it is ever revealed you did not create them, the prize for any winnings will be removed, and possibly have other consequences. Let us give credit to whom credit is due.

3) It must be approvable. Why? Only approved entries will be able to win, unless, for some reason,  they were unable to be approved beforehand, but were submitted in time. And even then, they must be approved before the prize will be given. This is to prevent OP or other problematic animals.

4) Anyone to violates these rules will have their other additions discarded as well. Unless, it can be shown it was an accident, and unintentionally similar to something in another show/anime/etc. After all, some ideas occur to us, and it turns out they were already used. Regardless, that entry will not be entered, as it does not meet the originality requirement.

5) A person can enter for all categories. You can submit your original spirit pet idea, AND a non combat pet, AND a combat pet. As many as you want in as many categories as you want.

6) They must be well described, a simple: “They look like a 8 foot tall bloodhounds, about 30 feet long from nose to tail tip, and mostly brown.” is not at all acceptable.

7) They must be anatomically feasible. A horse with 8 legs would likely be stumbling all over itself any time it tried to jog or run.  And a giant T rex sized head with no large legs and body to hold it up, just won’t work. Make it reasonable. That said, this is an Avatar forum. Could horses and ostriches somehow create ostrich horses in the real world? Not possible, here? They are one of the most common mounts. That means great freedom. While insects may need air to breath and that comes through their exoskeleton, limiting their size to small on earth, in avatar? Well…people ride giant rhinoceros beetles. So be creative! Just make it reasonable and feasible.

8} You can only win a gold prize once, perhaps exceptions can be made if your animal far beats the second best, or some such, but still. That means you get only 1 first prize, and with spirit pets, no exception. You can’t get a spirit pet and a non combat, and if you win both, you must pick one of your entries, and the one you do not choose, the runner up, or second place entry will get their created animal.

9) Competition judges may not make animals for this competition. Though if they just want to make them so they can buy one, some other reason, go ahead, but they can’t win any prizes.

10) All created entries are considered open for any person to use, even after you leave the forum. By posting them, you reserve ownership, but may not remove them from the forum, or refuse to let anyone else use them. If you create an animal and another person wants to buy it, they may. They may not alter the species, or defy it’s descriptions however.

11) Allow 3-4 days for judges to go over and vote on entries. In the event of a tie where no one can agree, staff will take over judging and a staff forum topic will be created.

12) Staff reserves the rights to modify these rules if a situation arises, and it reserves the right to kick entries who violate forums rules, or something not written here that is very obvious. So don’t go rant if the staff refuses to accept an animal as is, and thinks it needs some fixing.

13) More a suggestion than rule, but keep an eye on what others are submitting. If there are 5 animals approved with heat-vision, then that isn’t going to score creativity points with judges. That said, if you make it and then people start copying, it is not the same situation. But in short, avoid common things that you see in all kinds of forums, like all naruto forums have a bat clan, with perhaps blind users who can echo-locate. Avoid common ideas.

PRIZES

First Prize: The winning pet will be given to whatever character of yours you so wish, or you may save it and give it to a character you are planning to make. This pet must follow rules though, for example all spirit pets start as babies.

Second Place: A free item of your choosing, or, if you so choose, non combat pet.

Third Place: 5,000 coins.

End Date: December 7

Judges: For now, Staff

Non Combat Pet/Animal Template:

Code:

[b]Name:[/b] For the owner of the pet to decide when they submit it.
[b]Species:[/b] What is the name of this type of animal?
[b]Type:[/b] Non combat / Secondary type, such as mount

[b]Physical Description:[/b]

What color is it?
How big is it?
Does it have claws?

[b]Behavior Description:[/b] This part is just a description of average behavior. Are they isolated in the jungle, and intensely scared of people? Stuff like that. Obviously even if the species is calm and generally good around people, one with a history of abuse is different. But we want a nice general description. For example one might remark on how easily trained retrievers are compared to some dogs, or how good they are with kids, etc.

[b]Natural Habitat:[/b] Jungle? Grasslands? Do they live in trees? Lakes? Oceans?

[b]Diet:[/b] Carnivore? Insectivore? Omnivore? Herbivore? Good to know for Rping purposes, after all, they have to eat.

[b]Abilities:[/b]

Can they see in the dark? Fly? Can they sense vibrations in the ground? In general list everything. If you think it is something known to man but many might not have much knowledge of it, link to an appropriate wikipedia page, or some other source. One example is electroreception. Everyone knows sharks can sense electricity and tell where fish are, but they may not really understand it. This will help, and besides, having a well laid out, descriptive and helpful application, earns points with staff and helps make approving it easier. Spoilers are highly recommended for separating one ability from another, and making it easy to look up one ability they have. The code for spoilers is:

[spoiler=name of spoiler] Stuff inside [./spoiler] For example:

[spoiler=Enhanced Night Vision]

This species can see almost flawlessly in the dark. All night does for them is change a things color, nothing his hidden in terms of lack of light.
[/spoiler]
Combat or Spirit Pet Template:

Code:

[b]Name:[/b] For the owner of the animal to decide.
[b]Species:[/b] What is this species called?
[b]Type:[/b] Combat Pet / (normal or spirit?) /  (Anything else? Are they used for riding?)

[b]Physical Description:[/b]

What color is it?
How big is it?
Does it have claws?

[b]Behavior Description:[/b] This part is just a description of average behavior. Are they isolated in the jungle, and intensely scared of people? Stuff like that. [b]Basic Abilities:[/b]

[b]Combat Abilities:[/b]

These are for normal and spirit pets who are considered combat pets. (all spirit pets are combat pets.) Tell us of anything special that isn’t a sense or a basic ability, and fall into combat. Do they shoot poison spray  from the tip of their tails? How much? What color? What kind of poison and how potent? Again, spoilers are recommended to keep things organized and easy to look up.

Name: Spier

Bestiary Creation Contest! UwZcvHul

Species: Komodo-Panther

Type: Combat pet (spirit)

Physical Description: One of the most exotic creatures the world has to offer, the Komodo-panther is approximately 18 feet long, however most of this is its long, thin tale. It stands at about 8 or 9 feet tall and has 6 limbs. 2 of these limbs are large and powerful legs, used for running and climbing. They have paw-like feet with large claws; this is very different from the remaining 2 limbs on the chest. They are normally folded up until they are needed and they end in long spikes that are used to stab prey, skewer objects for crude manipulation, and clean its face (similar to a fly or ant). The creature is entirely hairless and has a thick grey-skinned hide. It's body is very muscular in some areas and very bony in others, giving it a twisted and frightening appearance. Komodo-panthers are most often recognized for their distinctive bony head which has large, powerful jaws and fangs. It's eyes are small and black as they are primarily intended for night vision.

Behavior Description: Komodo-Panthers are solitary by nature and are rarely seen by anyone. They only convene with others of their species when breeding, even then it is brief. They are nocturnal and often highly territorial. They make an odd hissing growl that echoes loudly over a large area to warn other creatures off. Komodo-Panthers are cold-blooded, but they contain and absorb heat better than most reptiles, so they can still be in cold climates for a few days. The creatures are highly intelligent and can reason quite well, this is part of the reason why nobody has ever captured one for any length of time. They have even been rumored to carry small, sentimental objects in their "hands" by tucking them beneath a claw. These behaviors have led to the superstition that a Komodo-panther is created when a child is trapped in the spirit world on accident and only their soul escapes. Komodo-panthers are apex predators and they are very fast; many find it hard to believe that they are also passable climbers and swimmers.

Natural Habitat: Tropical regions surrounding the eastern air temple exclusively

Diet: Carnivore

Basic Abilities:

Heat Sense:

Enhanced Night Vision:

Fore-Limbs:

Claws/jaws:

Stealth:

Combat Abilities:

Bacteria:

Face-claim:
This guy is the creator of the picture that I used for this creature; check out his other stuff to, it really awesome!

I was intending people to post them in bestiary creation for approval, and link them here not post them here. But I failed to make that clear, my apologies. At any rate, only admins can approve spirit pets, so this will wait for an admin.

Make a new topic, but you can leave it here as well! It makes a great example of creative work, and that might help illustrate what I mean. Assuming you do not mind. Should be as easy as editing your post and copy/pasting the resulting text and code into a new topic. Then again, maybe members can not edit their posts here.
